ABSTRACT

Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder that occurs due to an increase in blood glucose levels / hyperglycemia that exceeds normal limits in the body. According to WHO, the number of diabetes mellitus sufferers with hyperglycemia is estimated to increase to 8.4% in 2030. In Southeast Asia, Indonesia is the second largest population suffering from diabetes after India in 2030. The cause of the high incidence of diabetes mellitus with Hyperglycemia in Indonesia is a change in people's lifestyle, such as a lack of knowledge to detect diabetes mellitus early, lack of physical activity, traditional dietary arrangements that contain lots of carbohydrates and contain lots of protein and smoking habits. The aims of the study  to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and 3J diet, physical activity, smoking habits with the incidence of hyperglycemia in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the work area of the Gunung Sitember Community Health Center in 2020. The method of the study with a cross sectional approach. The instrument of the research using a questionnaire. The sample was 96 people with type 2 diabetes in the working area of Gunung Sitember Health Center, with consecutive sampling. The Data of  analysis used logistic regression at the level of confidence α = 0.05. The results of the study indicate that there is a relationship between knowledge level (p = 0.007; p <0.05), meal schedule (p = 0.007; p <0.05), type of food (p = 0.001; p <0.05), smoking habits (p = 0.030; p <0.05) and there was no significant relationship between physical activity (p = 0.069; p> 0.05) with the incidence of hyperglycemia. It is hoped that health workers can provide education to the community about the DM diet for diabetes mellitus sufferers and apply proper physical activity.
