PERLINDUNGAN HUKUM TERHADAP KORBAN KEKERASAN RUMAH TANGGA
Abstract
Domestic violence (KDRT) is a form of human rights violation that has a serious impact on the physical, psychological, and social victims, especially women and children as the most vulnerable group. Domestic violence does not only occur in certain environments, but can happen to anyone regardless of social, economic, or educational background. The forms of violence that occur include physical, psychological, sexual, and domestic neglect. The lack of public understanding of the law as well as the existence of a patriarchal culture and the assumption that domestic violence is a personal matter causes many victims to be reluctant to report and choose to remain silent. Therefore, legal protection for victims of domestic violence is very important to ensure a sense of security, justice, and recovery for victims. The main legal basis that regulates domestic violence in Indonesia is Law Number 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence. This law recognizes that domestic violence is a criminal act and provides protection for victims through various legal mechanisms such as temporary protection, rehabilitation, legal aid services, and psychological and social assistance. Criminal threats against domestic violence perpetrators vary according to the type of violence, ranging from prison sentences to fines. This community service activity was carried out in Rawang Pasar V Village, Asahan Regency, as an effort to educate and increase public legal awareness regarding the importance of legal protection for victims of domestic violence. This village was chosen because there are still many people who do not have an adequate understanding of the rights of victims and legal procedures that can be taken. With a better understanding of the law and support from all parties, it is hoped that the people of Rawang Pasar V Village and its surroundings will be more aware not to tolerate domestic violence and be able to provide maximum protection to victims. This effort is not only part of law enforcement, but also an important part of building healthy, safe, and just families and communities.
